OVERALL INFO
Sure, she's paranoid and overly defensive and doesn't like it when people criticize her paintings, sculptures or other forms of artwork, but she does have some redeeming qualities to her. For starters, she's a very skilled clairvoyant, though her skills don't stretch beyond what she is. She is no medium, make no mistake, although due to her parents she has inherited some form of medium-ship. When she is called upon to use her abilities, she does so like she would any of her paintings; she takes this very seriously.
As reclusive and introverted as Colette can be, she does have a certain charm about her that seems to draw people in. As an artist, she has to be creative, that just comes with the territory. Colette has something of a sharp, quick wit to her. She's more of an impulsive, quick-thinker and doesn't like to sit around and waste time thinking of ideas. Of course, her quick-wit oftentimes leads to the one issue many have with her: her honesty. There's simply no gain for her if she has to lie to someone about something; she sees no point in any of it.
One might find it odd that Colette can be quite the charmer. And although she's pretty quiet about it, she always gets what she wants. She just has a naturally persuasive personality; or perhaps it's her seemingly innocent appearance that makes people gravitate her way. She can't really explain it nor does she set out to.

Background ★ Info,
History,
For her part, Colette was a rather normal child considering the circumstances. She was raised by a team of nannies, though her mother was as hands on as she could be and as such, had a very good rapport with her only child. Colette learned many different languages, went to the best schools and associated with high society. This trend would continue until the family was abruptly forced to change. It was no secret in the Ambrosia household, that the family was highly unusual. Unbeknown to the public, Victor and Ariadne had a secret business on the side, one dealing with ghosts, for lack of a better word.
Colette never questioned her strange ability; she naturally assumed everyone else could see what she saw. It was only upon bringing all of this up in one of her classes that she realized she was alone. After being ridiculed and ostracized, a young Colette, no more than ten or eleven, went to her parents, demanding some sort of explanation. It was then that she was awoken to their other world, one that the public could never know about. Should they have ever found out, chaos would reign supreme.
She was told to keep their strange gift (it was never explained to her how it came to be) a secret and that she did. For the next ten years, she told no one, yet her visions only got worse. Initially, she was able to weed them out. However, the older she got, the more pronounced her abilities became and it became evident that she would need some form of training. Their daughter was labeled as troubled. Victor and Ariadne made the heartbreaking decision to retire from public life to concentrate on their daughter's well-being.
The Ambrosia family moved from France to the United States, Victor and Ariadne having had family already present in the country. The family settled in New York City, the reputation of the Ambrosia's enough to quiet any suspicions. Colette's teenage years are relatively unknown. She's only mentioned that it was by far the worst period of her life. All that is known is that she went to a prestigious school in Manhattan and graduated. Once she turned eighteen, she left the big city to live with family in Upstate New York in the small town of St. Calais. It was there that she would find her true calling.
Colette suffered from her ability as many did. The only way she found to subdue its effects was to paint. She couldn't recall when it started, but it was certain early on that it relieved a lot of stress. Her parents would never understand why she would leave a city like New York so abruptly and refuse to further her education. During this time, she lost physical communication with her parents, only remembering to send the cordial letter here and there. Luckily, her parents understood enough about their only child to allow her to find herself on her own, which they did.
It took a lot of time but she was able to sell her own artwork. It didn't pay a lot, but for the first time in many years, she felt happy and content. She met a young man, Arlo Hilton and together, they traveled the country, her selling her paintings and he singing, or trying to anyway. Again, she kept in touch with her parents but rarely did she see them. Arlo was a man with great ambition and became something of a manger for Colette, eventually forgoing his own dreams. He knew all the important people and was always able to showcase her work to just the right person. He had a touch of gold.
At his request, the duo relocated back to New York, this time in the city. For the first time in nearly five years, she saw her parents. Victor informed his daughter that both he and his wife had started up their "side" business again. Colette wanted no part. She hadn't told Arlo and had tried to ignore her ability the best she could. It had caused her enough pain and suffering to last a lifetime, she figured. She wanted no parts of anymore. However, during an art gallery of hers, Ariadne's mother showed up requesting Colette's company.
What the elder woman had to say intrigued her granddaughter. There was a way for Colette, and young people like herself, to combat their gift and do something for the greater good. Colette's grandmother handed her a card that simply read, "Chiaroscuro". She was told to go back to St. Calais and that someone would find her. She had to tell Arlo. He had been her partner for several years; they had a business of sorts together. She wouldn't say how she broke the news to him but she was rather shocked at how he responded. Arlo claimed to know the entire time that she was different because he was different too. He told her that he could communicate with ghosts and that he had long struggled with his identity because of it.
Colette wasn't in much of a position to deny what she was anymore. Her grandmother called her a clairvoyant, though she possessed a few skills attributed to a medium. Together, Arlo and Colette traveled up to St. Calais and did as they were told. A mysterious figure greeted them once they arrived at their designated location and before long, the duo became convinced of their true calling. The group, Chiaroscuro, was an upstart group of people with abilities similar to that of Arlo and Colette. They were instantly welcomed.
The next decade saw the duo as part of Chiaroscuro fully, veterans at their craft. With Arlo's help, Colette was able to finally learn how to deal with the mental stress that came along with her ability. They were, undoubtedly one of the best in the group. They quickly rose up in the ranks, quietly earning the respect of many. As fulfilling as Chiaroscuro was, Colette never stopped painting. The group didn't pay as much as she would have liked and the painting helped calm her more than anything else.
For now, Colette lives in St. Calais, continues to paint and is still an active member of Chiaroscuro. She prefers keeping to herself and shuns the spotlight unlike her friend, Arlo.
