AT A GLANCE ♥,

Oh, yes, vampires and lycanthropes, spirits and humans with odd abilities ... but of course, they have always existed beneath the public eye, going about their business and better left alone.

Versailles, France. It was here that the seat of the absolute French monarchy once stood, its palace a magnificent pinnacle of engineering, of art ... and of power. Elegance, decadence, scandal and deceit; the court could once boast of the most fanciful tales, its subjects constantly spun, entwined, in a perpetual web of intrigue.

Beneath the swath of velvet red petals, however, the core rots. For every epic ballad sung, there is a story yet untold. Time has done little to erase it, and while memories fade, some grudges never die.

An everlasting curse, perpetuated into today. Two factions, their war ever raging. The reward? Power. The price? Sanity. Mystical secrets disinterred from the most remote corners of the world.

This is not a war of race. This is not 'lycanthropes versus vampires.' This friction runs deep; it is a matter of ethics and loyalty, not of race or of survival.

History can be analyzed and re-analyzed, the future can be awaited with anticipation, but it is the present that concerns us.

That said ... who, exactly, are your friends? Or perhaps more importantly ...

Welcome to Saint Calais, a nice little port city (or large town?) in Massachusetts. We've a boring history ... we were supposedly first established in the late 1600s as a Dutch colony, then sold to the French, and then finally surrendered to the British colonies ... right, you probably could care less. I know I would. Anyway, the main thing is ... yeah this place isn't as quaint and normal as it seems.

Right, don't laugh. There's weird stuff going on here. The kind of stuff you read in horror books or something. But it's ... it's about these vampires. You're laughing already, right? Thought so. Seriously, though, they're supposedly these two ancient groups or political parties or whatever ... only vampires. Apparently whatever it is they're fighting about is pretty important, because they've been doing it for ages. And they just had to move it to our backyard.

Maybe it's a history thing? Saint Calais was a French colony after all. And I hear the founders of both sides were originally from France. Might have to look into that, actually ...

Well, anyway, hope I didn't scare you off! Luckily for us not all the vampires are mean. Just some of them. There's other weird stuff going on too! Werewolves and other people with weird magic powers. Why'd they all have to come over here? Eh too late, they're already here. Might as well just put up with it.

Funniest part is ... seems like I'm one of the few who's even realized this is going on. I swear I'm not crazy! I'm the only one who's not crazy ... !
