Amelia Langley
Gender: Female
Age/DOB: 212 / May, 1800
Occupation: Unemployed at the moment, just moved to Saint Calais.
Race: Vampire
Appearance;
Amelia is five feet and five inches tall. She is petite with a slender build at about one-hundred-and-twenty pounds. She has medium-length blond hair that’s naturally wavy. She’s a fan of make-up, but she likes to think she’s classy about it. Amelia dresses in the latest fashion. She likes her clothing to be flattering, but not trashy. She’s not against wearing skimpier outfits if she has a good reason for it (manipulation, for instance), but it’s not her typical preference.
Personality;
Back when she was just a simple human, living with her family, Amelia was kind, generous, naive. She also had an impetuous temper. She was stubborn and didn't let anyone tell her what she was supposed to do. Being the way that she was, it often caused trouble in her personal life. In the end, not being eager to please and bow down to someone was why she became a vampire. After the transition from human to vampire, her personality shifted. For a while, she became this reckless force of nature, not caring about humans, her impulsive temper magnified, she did what she wanted to do - when she wanted to do it. The kind girl she was once known as was gone, and in her place was this.. Monster, as she now thinks back sometimes. That went on for a while, until her conscience caught up with her. She realized the wrongs and rights for her, even with her being what she was. The thrill of danger still captivates her, but she does not go on wild killing sprees. She doesn't trust anyone anymore, but can you blame her? Amelia can be bossy, secretive, and stubborn, and she's a bit high maintenance in some respects. With years of training, she now doesn't immediately snap someone's neck when they disagree with her, though she may be still easily angered. But she tries her best to behave most of the time.
Amelia is very ironic and loves a good laugh. She is fun spirited and doesn't really mind breaking the rules. Whether it be social conduct or the laws enforced by humans. She likes to let loose and that is one of the few reasons why she enjoys this era - she can swear like a sailor and she won't be lynched for it. Though she sometimes misses the kindness and compassion in men that even then was hard to find - nowadays its nearly impossible. At least for her for some reason. Amelia can be really manipulative, if there is something that she wants, she'll do anything to get it. And she won't play fair.
History;
For the "average" person, life in 1812 was almost immeasurably worse than it is today. Amelia always tends to laugh when people complain about stress and quality of life in the present, when back then your stress primarily revolved around your poverty, the fact that your kids kept dying, and the reality that you were going to live your entire life, until you died, in a state of constant work and poverty.
Amelias family was poor. Really poor. Unlike today, there wasn't a large middle class, and if you were poor back then, you stood a very real chance of starving or at least being so malnourished that you were killed off by any one of the various rampant diseases that were common at the time. Her family almost certainly worked harder than the families of today. Hard, demanding agricultural or industrial work that was backbreaking and dangerous. And if you got hurt, you were out on the street, begging. Most people, for most of history, spent every daylight hour trying to ensure that they earned enough or produced enough to feed their family through the winter.
Amelias family consisted of her grandparents, parents and 4 siblings, one sister and her brothers. Children were important assets because they took care of their parents when they were old. There were no rest homes for people to go to when they grew old. Government social security systems did not exist either. The family was the social security then Her sister and brother died when they were young from a sickness. Amelia doesn't still to this day know what the sickness was. She asked her parents once, but they did not speak of it. The dynamic of families back then was as you can imagine - father being the head of the family and others had to accept that. Her relationship with her father was always estranged, particularly because Amelia does not do well with others ordering her around. When she turned eighteen, the dispute between her and her father grew to such proportions that her father kicked her out of the household. That was, as you might say, the beginning of the end. Her mother and brothers didn't want her to leave and the feud was awful, Amelia could almost literally feel how she was tearing the family apart. So she left, leaving two worried grandparents, a teary mother, two extremely sad and angry brothers and a cold apathetic father behind.
Being on the street was horrible, as far as Amelia can remember. Those memories are all a bit foggy to her. Amelia had no money and no place to sleep, let alone eat. She sometimes managed to find kind people who let her sleep in their barns for a few nights (given she worked her ass off) but other times she wasn't as lucky, offering herself for a bed to sleep in. That is where she met the man who changed her life.. Afterlife, to be precise. She met a man, who told her beautiful things, that she was worth so much more and offered his help. He told all the right things to the girl who was naive and desperate enough to believe them. Though even then Amelias mind thought ''This can't be real, there has to be a catch.'' And there was. For a while, Amelia stayed at his place. It was a big mansion, a lot of people were always present. He gave her her own chambers. And after about two weeks, she let her guard down. She started to believe him, that he could make her life so very different, Amelia was almost hypnotized by him.
Then one night, Amelia woke up with him standing in her room. She was still half-asleep when he pushed his fangs into her neck. Amelia wishes that she couldn't remember it, but she does. At least some bits and pieces. It was hell, she was screaming, yelling, crying out for help - she was sure help would come, with the house always full of people. She later of course understood that only a few of them were human, most were vampires. The others were food. Luckily something about her captivated her maker and instead of feasting upon her, he decided to turn her into one of him. Though there are days where Amelia doesn't feel lucky to not have ended up as food. The physical transition didn't take too long, but it was awfully hard emotionally. It took her a while to accept the fact that she couldn't be outside on a sunny day, something that she used to love. Even harder was the fact how she hated herself for the need for blood. For being such a monster and for not having any restraints when she saw or smelt blood. It was so traumatic that after a while, she just.. Didn't think of humans as people, but just regular food. Plus back in those days she really found comfort in booze, making her judgments even cloudier.
That went on for about 70 years. 70 years of not caring about people and how much hurt she caused them. In the 1900's, she was drinking at a tavern with a gentleman who was buying her drinks all night. When the gentleman told her it was time for him to leave, Amelia was so sure he would ask her to accompany him to his house. But he didn't, that made her curious. Since she had nothing to lose and a meal to gain, she followed him, making sure he didn't spot her. When he finally made it to his house, right before he opened the door Amelia did what she knew best - what she was made to do - drink. And she quenched her thirst until nothing was left of him but a limp body. That is when the door opened and a little girl, about the age of 8 stood in front of her and cried for her daddy. Something happened to Amelia then, whether it was how much the girl reminded her of her sister or not, Amelia had started to think for once about how horrible she was.
She left her 'coven' of sorts - her maker and the other vampires - and has never looked back since. It took her about a 100 years to gain as much control of herself as she can, even though she sometimes still messes up and makes mistakes. She tried feeding on animals for the longest of time but that never worked for her. So she has spent a good number of years traveling, seeing the world and stealing from people that were as naive as she was once. It's not a hard thing to do when you're much more stronger and quicker than your average joe. And after over a hundred years of stealing where you can, you can imagine to have a normal amount of money. But call it loneliness or being homesick, Amelia has started to circle around the proximity of the old neighborhood again.
