OVERALL PERSONALITY
As a pretend psychic, Edith has no belief in the supernatural and is extremely skeptical about most claims of it.
Edith can sometimes seem uneducated and gullible but beneath her rural, working class veneer is a very perceptive and cunning young woman, especially when it comes to short term goals. She isn’t very book smart, but she’s good with people and knowing what they want from her and how to get what she wants from them.

Background ★ Info,
History,
Her only joy was in playing pretend and participating in school plays. She was a big fish in a tiny pond and took the praise others gave her to heart. At the age of 17 Edith ran away and hitchhiked into the United States and eventually made her way to Los Angeles, California. Her dreams of stardom fell quickly. She was soon waiting tables, and eventually modeling. After she was 18 she even briefly modeled nude on a pinup website. She quickly discovered this wasn’t the life for her. Even though she modeled and occasionally danced under an assumed name, she knew it would lead to more extreme things and could keep her from the career she really wanted, acting.
Edith returned to waitressing and one day served an older, gold lame turbaned lady wrapped in a sparkly shawl. She was fascinated with the woman’s obvious fake accent and sparkly baubles. The woman, a Madame Mesmeralda, took a liking to Edith and agreed to teach her all about the ‘business’ of fake psychic consultation. This is when Edith invented ‘Sybella’, her fake psychic consultant alter ego.
Edith was a quick learner and proved to be very clever. Madame Mesmeralda took Edith on as an assistant and taught her all the tricks of the trade, cold reading, slight of hand, body language interpretation and good old fashion guessing. Edith repaid her mentor by running errands, cleaning and managing Madame Mesmeralda’s parlor.
Things were going well for Edith. Madame Mesmeralda became a mother figure for her. She was able to quit dancing on the side to supplement her waitressing income. Most of Mesmeralda’s customers were bored housewives married to upper middle class to rich men, with money to burn and manufactured dramas. It was very rare that the parlor drew customers with real problems and little money. Edith was able to squash any pangs of guilt she may have felt over watching her mentor lie to strangers for money. Besides, the Madame’s role seemed more like a therapists than a magicians. The Madame was telling these people what they wanted to hear and comforted them. Edith was able to rationalize their services as for the greater good. But then less fortunate, needier clients began to filter in. Clients that in truth couldn’t afford Madame Mesmeralda’s services and also truly believed in her powers. Edith assumed that the Madame would turn them away once she realized their situation…but she didn’t. Edith eventually confronted the Madame. The discussion did not go well and Edith was soon on her own again, hitching across the US.
Edith, always not planning very far ahead, didn’t realize how hard it would be to cross the border to Canada again to return to her home town, so instead of returning to Canada Edith is still in the USA, forged identity papers in hand, and has recently arrived in St. Calais looking for work.
